Bluebell woods

The last couple of years have been pretty crappy, so this is more or less the first photography I’ve done since COVID hit. But great to get out to our local bluebell woods (just a few minutes’ walk away) and play with my new macro lens. More from the shoot here.

Zambia and WPY

Well, it’s that time of year again – Wildlife Photographer of the Year submissions are due. Happily we’ve been on another safari, this time to Zambia, and I’ve finally edited the photographs. Some highlights of our most recent two trips (Zambia and Tanzania) below, and you can see the full album for Zambia here.

Tanzania

Back from Africa again – this time in northern Tanzania to see Tarangire, Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti. Managed to catch the southern end of the Great Migration this time. Saw some fantastic wildebeest stampedes and had a lot of fun learning how to shoot moving subjects with really slow shutter speeds (some as low…

Autumn Fire

Another few photos to remind me that the best camera is the one you have with you at the time. At an old country house for a conference and managed to catch some shots of fallen maple leaves. Accidentally taking a frame while moving gave me an idea. All photos taken on my mobile with…

New York, New York – and Niagara

Back to New York again, but this time I remembered to bring a tripod for night photographs of the Manhattan skyline.  And we had slightly longer to explore the city, so went up the Empire State Building and visited the Statue of Liberty.  Side trip to Niagara – the falls are amazing, but the town…

The Great Migration!

So we’ve been back for some time, but it’s taken me this long to edit some photos.  Thank heavens for the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition, there’s nothing quite like a deadline… So here are some photos from our recent trip to Kenya to see the Great Migration. All these shots are from the…

New York, New York – and Virginia

Ok, so I’m way behind on editing my photos. But at last I’ve got some done – these are from our trip to the USA in July. Lots of Manhattan skylines (don’t think I’ll ever get bored of that); some shots of the Space Shuttle Discovery, Enola Gay and an SR-71 Blackbird (probably the best…

Save the Cheetah

One of our two Christmas charities this year (admittedly donating slightly late) – the AfriCat Namibia foundation, which we were able to visit in Namibia in 2015. And some photos of a cheetah and one of our excellent guide 🙂  http://www.africat.org/…http://www.virginmoneygiving.com/AfricatFoundation

Tiglets!

Great day out at London Zoo on Sunday. Went to see the Sumatran tiger cubs and got lucky – they get very frisky after feeding. Possibly the very definition of a furball. But the yellow mongoose were an unexpected highlight. Real posers. But in a good way…

ZAPP!

Staggered and honoured to win my category (At Home in their Habitat) in the Zoological Society of London Animal Photography Prize! Taken from an aeroplane, this image portrays the dependence on the environment of even the largest animal in Africa. The game trails show the passage of many animals, now absent, to what was once a large…
